Southampton Boat Show 2007

Southampton Boat Show 2007 was an excellent show for Honnor Marine who this year took the CapeCutter19 Original Devon Lugger Original Devon Scaffie and for the first time the Original Devon Dabber.
Honnor Marine had the same stand as last year which always makes it easy to find us.

We took our ever popular CapeCutter19 Original Devon Lugger Original Devon Dabber and our very popular Devon Scaffie.
We had our very good friends Simon Head and son Simeon helping us as usual on our stand.

Simon owns a CapeCutter19 which has a white hull and is always on hand to give advice on the CC19's sail performance.

Nigel John who works for the BMF has always been an excellent organiser and comes to see that all is going well.

Our CapeCutter19 as usual attracted a lot of visitors. This years addition to the boat was an acrylic spray hood and a swim ladder.

Honnor Marine manufacture all their own trailers in house to a very high spec. Each trailer is especially designed for all our boats to ensure easy launching and retrieving. We always recommend a spare trailer wheel and these can be easily carried secured on each trailer with a bracket.

CapeCutter19 owner was delighted to have a strip of parell beads off us to use on his CC19 gaff jaw which he'd lost.

Lovely to meet Barry Groves again. Barry is from the IOW Chamber of Commerce and looks after us when we exhibit at The Dubai Boat Show which is always held in March.

As we were talking to Barry about 2008's Dubai Boat Show quite unexpectantly along came Gary Burns of Horizon Motor Yachts UK.

We couldn't believe we were all gathered together for the first time since we all exhibited in Dubai and were quite excited at the prospect of what next years Dubai Show will bring.

It is always nice to meet up with Richard Walker from Chandlers Ford. Richard bought our Original Devon Lugger "Rhapsody" at the 2005 Southampton Boat Show.

Lovely to see Graham Piddington at the show. Keen sailor Graham is currently undergoing a winter project to adapt his 17ft sailing boat to make it easier for him to lower his mast.

He is changing from an aluminium mast ( which is quite heavy) to a wooden Sitka Spruce mast and has fitted a s/steel tabernacle to his boat ( similar size etc to our Coaster mast) to enable easier handling. Hence this will now take a Lugger mainsail and he has opted for a roller reefing jib. We hope to have some pictures to show the boats transformation when everything is complete.

Always a pleasure to meet up with Ken Charman. Ken who owns an Original Devon Lugger is also a very keen sailor and has made some useful adaptations to his Lugger. Ken who is a member of the Drascombe Association attends all their rallies and is most enthusiastic at the sail performance of his Lugger.

(Note all Honnor Marine Boat Owners can join the Drascombe Association and attend their rallies)

Always with a cheerful smile our good friend John from London who visits all our boat shows.

Mike Brooke shakes hands with CC19 owners who were pleased to hear that Mike has placed an order for his CapeCutter19 at this years show.

Mike is using his new CC19 ( WHICH WILL BE AVAILABLE TO SEE AT THE LONDON BOAT SHOW IN JANUARY 2008) to Sponsor his Godson Theo.

Mike, who is a retired Royal Navy yacht master was really pleased to discuss the sail performance of the CC19.( you can read more about Mikes sponsored sail which will be given an up date in January's News Page.
Our Show Dabber caused a lot of interest. Priced at £7.495 incl vat this well made 15ft 6" day sailing boat is CE Approved for 5 adults ( 5 x 75kilos) and is a safe family boat.

She is easy to trail - launch and retrieve. Her suit of 7oz terylene sails carry a five year warranty. We recommend a 3.5hp outboard with a standard shaft.

Honnor Marine only use quality ropes which are all colour coded to enable easy rigging.

All the classic Tufnell Blocks are made in house, as is all the hardwood boat fittings.( All spares such as engine mounts transom boards floor boards can be obtained from Honnor Marine.)

Because of her popularity we shall be taking our Original Devon Dabber to the London Boat Show.

BBC TV gave an interview with the new MD of the BMF; We were delighted to allow them permission to use our CC19 as a background feature for the television interview which was on the TV each morning at the beginning of the show.

How's that for a superb quality polished GRP Hull on the CapeCutter19 ?

Our CC19 show boat was invaded one afternoon by the " Collar Children"; Look Look they shouted Granddads  boat! and in one rush they were all aboard.

Jeremy their father who manufactures all Honnor Marine masts,  Jeremy's father owns and keeps his CapeCutter19 in Cornwall where the family regularly sail.

The children Grace Charlie May and Harry who sail with their parents in the CC19 recognised the boat at once and were literally " all over her".

The CC19 Sleeps 4 adults comfortably and is a very safe "FUN" day sailing boat for children.

The Southampton Boat Show is a show not only for the adult boat enthusiasts but a huge number of children attend every year and enjoy all the fun facilities which are available to them.

It's always a pleasure to meet up with Alan Woolford and his wife Valerie. Alan supports us at all our boat shows and is always willing to talk Dabbers and Luggers.

Alan who runs the Queen Mary Sailing School at Ashford Middlesex kindly joins us every year at Beale Park in June where he and his colleagues kindly allow the visitors a sail in an Original Devon Lugger on the Thames.

Visitors Tim Blandford and daughter owners of Devon Lugger " Fair Maid" came to see us to order some more parrel beads that they needed.

Tim told Bob and I that since purchasing their Lugger in 2004 that he and his wife and their three children had enjoyed lots of boating holiday's and picnics on the beach and couldn't imagine life without a family Lugger.

Visitors Graham Keen and family, owners of CC19 Hull 68 were delighted to meet up with Simon Head to discuss Grahams successful " Round the Island Race" which was kindly given coverage by Water Craft magazines Sept/Oct edition.

Visitors Mr and Mrs Steven Curson from Southampton came aboard the show CC19 to see the fitted sprayhood and swim ladder. They decided to have them for their  CC19  "TARRY 2" which is due to be delivered to them by the end of October 2007.

(ORDERS TAKEN FOR THE CAPECUTTER19 ARE NOW FOR DELIVERY EARLY 2008)

ue to moving into larger premises and taking on board more qualified staff Honnor Marine have now caught up with the CapeCutter19 orders.

Cheers Joe !! where would we be at the Southampton Boat Show without these guys who look after the show site and are only too willing to give us a helping hand when needed.

Bob and I are so grateful to Tim Gregory from Norfolk who was due to take delivery of his CC19 early September but allowed us to take her to the Southampton Boat Show to exhibit with.

Tim brought his family for the last weekend of the show and helped us out on the stand.

Don and Charlie Cousins were pleased to hear that their CapeCutter19  " DIPPER" will be ready for collection 27th October.

They were also delighted to meet the famous author Sam Llewellyn which Charlie said she had read and enjoyed most of his books.

Our familiar visitors faces flowed in daily to support us Dr Tutton and husband from Rochdale.

(Barry Treacher owner of Devon Lugger " Honey Bee" all the way from County Donegal.

Ian Moffet owner of "MAGGIE" Devon Lugger all the way from Co Londonderry.

Philip Cole and son who is lovingly restoring a very old Lugger. We have been able to supply him with a new centre plate - kick up rudder and rudder guides.

THE BUSHMILL GUYS. What a lovely bunch of guys, Jody, Matt and Russell who were representing " Bushmills Whisky" just outside the Holiday Inn.

I am sure that 99% of the show visitors will remember them!! I certainly will.

Bob and I cannot thank Paul and Susan enough. They exhibited with their company TECHNIX Rubber and Plastics and kindly kept sending over thick rubber mats for Bob and I and our customers to stand on; The concrete floor after standing 10 hours a day certainly don't help your feet but thanks to Paul and Susan their mats did.

Many thanks to Peter Cross who bought our show Scaffie. Peter said that he had admired these lovely boats for many years and was really pleased with himself for making the decision to own one at last. He has called his boat "HARMONY".

The Scaffie is 14ft 9" and CE Approved to carry 4 adults ( 4 x 75 kilos). With her bilge keels she sits upright when the sea has gone out and is very easy to handle.

She has a 100sq ft single Lug Sail which on a windy day can move extremely fast;

She comes with reefing points to restrict her ( something Bob say's I never came with !) The Scaffie is easy to launch and retrieve and at  £6.495 incl vat is good value.

The Scaffie comes in all colours red/turquoise blue / black and white hulls with a standard cream deck. We recommend a 2.5 hp outboard with a standard shaft.

Sunday, the last day of the show brought the rain late in the afternoon; we were about to start packing our stand up when quite a wet family came on our stand to discuss our show Lugger; They had read about the Lugger and what a safe day sailing boat she was and having been built for over 40 years had well established herself not only in the UK but world wide.

The show offer helped make the sail and we were delighted when they agreed to buy her and collect her Monday morning from the stand.

Mr & Mrs Jeff Dorricott and little daughter from Ringwood were very pleased with their boat now named " GAEL" and Bob and I wish them many happy sailing hours in her.

 (Guess who got the Dinosaur?

Honnor Marine's new manufacturing space for the CapeCutter19 Devon Luggers  Devon Dabbers Devon Scaffie Devon Longboats Devon Coasters.

Because of the extra room the CapeCutter19's are now being put into to production two at a time to meet the demand.

A picture showing the " pan " of a CC19.

Bob and Norma encourage and welcome visitors to come to our boatyard to see everything in production.

We use the BOATMARK CHIP in all our boats which has the boats hull number planted during the build of the boat in a secure place.

We honestly believe that this device is well worth the £39 charge and definitely puts thieves off stealing your boat.

Should you need any advice or help with any queries please phone Bob or Norma at Honnor Marine on 01706-715986
